In the field since May 2023
Arizona Native Vote had a great first year. Thank you to our donors.
Since May, our team has been in the field talking and engaging with voters around the coming elections as well as providing community service.
We've hired and trained 10 part-time local Indigenous organizers, we call Firekeepers, on the Navajo Nation and Hopi. Firekeepers reach out to their families, friends, and surrounding community members helping them check their voter registration status, update their registration, and or register for the first time. Firekeepers encourage community members to learn more about the election process and what tribal, county, state, and federal officials do.
In addition to engaging voters, Firekeepers also dedicate 30% of their time to actual community organizing; lending a helping hand, providing mutual aid, leading community service projects like water and wood hauling, back-to-school supply drives, elder check ups, and more.
Firekeepers are in their communities on a weekly basis doing what they can to help. This is critical to building long-term trust, engagement, and good voting habits.
