Indigenous Democracy Class
Some of our teens are thriving, others are struggling, most are just trying to figure things out.
We are so proud of them. Life is lifin’ and we are here for them.
Thanks to several educators, we had the privilege to spend the day with 100+ high school seniors in Chinle, AZ, Navajo Nation for our Indigenous Democracy Class. We learned so much. They want to know more and many are engaged. They really do care, despite “what some adults may think”.
We told our stories, registered some to vote, and we talked about what they cared about. We also made sure they knew as community members and voters that they absolutely matter. That they have a powerful voice, and to use it to shape and help things happen.
Public safety and trash were mentioned quite often. Alongside climate, water, because some come from families of ranchers and farmers, they see it and feel it every day. They see the struggle of family trying to pay bills, community struggles around addiction, health, and yet we also knew that were more than these struggles. That we come from powerful people and places. These challenges are just that, challenges, and we keep pushing for better because we deserve it.
Thank you students and teachers! We appreciate you so much.
