ANV SPRING UPDATES
π²π§¦ Socks & Stew - We're back and talking with voters!
Weβre grateful for the incredible community participation at our recent Socks & Stew events! We held 10 Sock & Stew sessions across Hopi, White Mountain Apache, and the Navajo Nation to reconnect with voters. Education is the foundation of citizenship and voters expressed the need to come together in-person and talk about the many changes they are seeing and hearing, on a daily basis, across the policy and political landscape. By bringing together community members for hot meals, warm socks, and important discussions about 2025 priorities weβve already started 2025-2026 field engagements with the goal of getting our folks ready for the 2026 Midterm elections.
ANV
Winter & Spring Campaign
The first four events were held in Hopi. Followed by gathering in White Mountain Apache and Navajo Nation.
π Community Feedback
Voters had questions and shared genuine concerns regarding:
Deportations, immigration, and tribal identification
Healthcare funding
Veterans issues (housing, services, VA benefits, etc.)
Voting rights and 2024 election day experiences and challenges
Attacks on tribal sovereignty, land, and natural resources
Lack of news; need for trustworthy sources and up to date information
Challenges to tribal government services and delivery
And the overall state of governance
White Mountain Apache Socks & Stew team.
π² Event Outcomes:
Successfully reconnect with communities and create a safe space to share concerns and information
Gather important community feedback
Build new relationships with local officials and community members
Cultural and language engagement
Community members expressed the need for longer meeting times, more in-person events, and a desire to learn more about self advocacy and clear calls to action.
There is a real need to have Firekeepers and community leaders help deliver trusted information and education. Firekeepers and youth organizers reviewed 2024 election results, county and state offices and services, and our Indigenous Democracy Classes.
The stew was delicious, and the socks were a huge hit! A big congratulations to the Hopi, White Mountain Apache, and Navajo team leads for organizing a fantastic winter campaign. Remember to update your physical address/Google Plus Code and phone number with the us and your county election office. This is so critical to resolving early issues with voter registration.
Indigenous rural communities do vote. Our team sees many challenges because of the lack of physical addresses and contact information for timely notifications. We can fix this! This may not resolve all the voting barriers in tribal and rural communities, but it's something we can all do.
π‘ Update your contact information by calling our team at 928-489-8811 or email us at info@arizonanativevote.org. Thank you.
